Coronary artery disease is the atherosclerotic obstruction of the coronary arteries. Coronary artery is the blood vessel supplying blood to the heart.
The obstruction of the coronary artery leads to reduced blood supply to the heart. This in turn results in dysfunction of the heart. If the lesion is at critical position then there is high chance that the patient will die suddenly.

Is lifestyle modification alone will help the patient?
Yes in half the patients it will.
However the remaining half will need some intervention to prevent death.
Which intervention is the best?
For the 99% of the patients who need intervention, Coronary Bypass surgery is the right intervention. For 1% some form of Angioplasty is required.
Is chest pain the indication for heart disease?
Yes but in very few patients. In many patients sudden cardiac death is the first indication of the coronary disease; therefore it is important to undergo regular yearly health check.
Is it right that coronary artery disease is the disease of the old age?
No! Not any more. Now a days it is more common in young population.
