Coronary Heart
Disease - High Blood Presssure
Yes high blood pressure is a risk factor for this type of heart disease.
Also it does put a lot of strain on the heart muscle. Therefore one
should try to restrict the blood pressure at normal level. There are
two values that the physician informs you one is lower than the other.
The upper one is called the systolic pressure and shows the maximum
force generated by your heart to overcome the resistance to the flow.
The lower one is the diastolic pressure and it shows the amount of
resistance to the blood flow. Out of the two the diastolic one is
very very important to prevent the complications of the high blood
pressure. And one has to try to keep it as low as possible. [Please
also see the discussion on how much high
is really high.]
CORONARY HEART DISEASE-High
blood pressure-How much high is really high?
The diastolic pressure of 80 or less than 80 is associated with zero
complications. If it is beyond that value your chances of having complications
increase. Therefore the aim is to keep the diastolic pressure at that
level or below. To keep the pressure low medicines are helpful but
are not the permanent solution because these medicines have side effects.
[In fact all the medicines including the Ayurvedic medicines have
side effects the only thing is side effects of the Ayurvedic medicines
are not scientifically studied and therefore are not known. Not known
does not mean side effects do not exist. It is more dangerous to have
a drug with unknown side effects.]
The ultimate destination is drug free healthy leaving. And that is
achieved through lifestyle modification.
The old concept of different "normal higher" diastolic pressure
values for higher ages has been proven being wrong by the new research.
